The Oprah Magazine reviews CND Shellac and calls it a winner - CLICK TO ENLARGE
The Oprah Magazine has covered CND Shellac in their May 2011 issue.
“We tried it… and you might want to Shellac,” it reads.
The Oprah Magazine verdict on CND’s Shellac nail polish manicure:
When we heard about CND SHELLAC, the 30-minute-in-salon manicure that dries almost instantly and promises perfect polish for two weeks, we thought it sounded too good to be true.
So assistant beauty editor Alessandra gave it a go, and remarkably, the fiery red on her fingers stayed brilliant, and entirely chip-free, for 21 days.
Val, the beauty department’s skeptic in chief, had her toes Shellac-ed in February and was back in the office, wearing socks and boots, in less than an hour.
The formula:
Shellac combines acrylic with the solvents in classic nail polish to form a liquid that brushes on in thin layers but sets to a hard, shiny finish.
The process:
A base coat, two coats of color, and a top coat are painted on just like regular polish. In between each step, you slip your hand (or foot) under a UV lamp to set the polish (for ten seconds after the base coats, two minutes after each subsequent coat.)
Two minutes after the top coat as been applied, your nails are totally, completely, go-ahead-and-dig-through-your-purse-for-your-keys (or slip-back-into-your-shoes) dry.
The price:
$25 to $45 for a manicure, $40 to $60 for a pedicure (depending on the salon; go to cnd.com for a list).
The catch:
Shellac is trickier to remove than regular polish (though far easier than acrylics or other new “soak-off gels” we’ve tried). Nails must be wrapped in acetone-soaked cotton for ten minutes — the color then slides right off.
The company advises going to a salon for removal (for which some salons will charge).
Keep in mind:
Because of the UV light exposure, you might want to apply sunscreen to your hands 30 minute before your appointment.
Tough as nails:
With the addition of 12 new shades (show in the pic is Hollywood, Shellac is available in 24 chip-resistant colors.)
